Taking Precautions

St. Kitts and Nevis are friendly islands for vacationers to visit and there is generally no crime on these island, but travelers should remember a few things to have a safe vacation.

Crime has not a been a major concern on St. Kitts or Nevis, but in recent years, there have been a few crimes reported against tourists on St. Kitts. As a precaution, travelers should always remain aware of their surroundings and make good decisions while on vacation.

Due to some recent break-ins and as a general safety precaution, travelers should always use discretion, and remember to lock cars, and hotel and house doors when you leave.

Also, in case there is a robbery, travel with the minimum amount of valuables and money in your possesion. There have also been some accounts of sexual assault on the island of St. Kitts, so it is recommend that travelers don't hang out in dark alleys, and women do not go jogging by themselves on beaches and secluded roads.

Less crime has been reported on Nevis, but there have been some burglaries and break-ins that have affected travelers.

If while visiting St. Kitts or Nevis, you are unfortunately a victim of a crime there are several things that you can do. If your passport is stolen or lost, immediately contact local police and also report it to the nearest U.S. Embassy.
