From restored plantation houses to tiny new hotels and all-inclusive resorts, lodging on St. Kitts and Nevis can be as steeped in history or as contemporary as the islands themselves.
These two islands are known for their plantation-style houses that take visitors back to an era when sugar cane was the region's main source of income. At these restored plantation houses, visitors get an up-close peek at colonial daily customs while enjoying the intimacy of a quiet inn. Having drinks with other guests before dinner may be part of the gracious island hospitality you will experience when you book a room with a history.

Basseterre and the nearby Frigate Bay are popular destinations amongst tourists. Access to the beaches is the biggest draw, but these areas also offer a good variety of accommodations, including a few large resorts. Elsewhere on the island, tourists will find charming coastal towns, historical sites, soaring peaks and other attractions, but very few places to stay.
Nevis
The smaller island, Nevis is not as populated as St. Kitts, but it still has quite a few options, including some of the most luxurious properties in the two-island nation. You will find a good range of lodging options in the vicinity of Newcastle, Charleston, and Gingertown, and all along the coast, which features some of the prettiest beaches.
Most people visiting the islands stay at one of the major hotels or resorts, but smaller properties with a distinctive local flair are available on both St. Kitts and Nevis.
Rental properties can be less expensive then hotels and resorts, especially when the cost is divided amongst a group of people staying together. There are several moderately priced, low rise condominium projects on St. Kitts in the Frigate Bay area. If you are in the mood to splurge on a luxury rental, you should focus on Nevis, where you will find a good variety of upscale options, including some with access to the resort amenities of the Four Seasons, or one of its local competitors. Autonomy, privacy, spaciousness and luxury are all reasons to consider a rental property.
There are no camping sites on the islands, but camping is allowed on some of the beaches. Eco-tourists will find St. Kitts and Nevis an idyllic destination, because of the many large empty beaches, expansive rainforests, and several mountains to climb -- but most likely you will want to stay in one of the small locally owned hotels. Planning your trip to St. Kitts involves considering multiple factors, especially when it comes to choosing where to stay.
Finding a place to accommodate a large group of people at an affordable price can sometimes be a hassle. Look into hotels that specialize in suites, or rental properties large enough that everyone will be comfortable.
At times, you can find accommodations that specialize in the activities that you are interested in pursuing. Some hotels offer packages that include dive trips, or days out on the boat fishing. If you know you'll want to spend some time casino gambling, there are casinos at St. Kitts Marriott Resort and Royal St. Kitts Hotel & Casino, and golfers will want to stay at the Four Seasons.
Most people vacation in St. Kitts for just a few days, but those who are planning an extended stay have more to consider. Staying in a resort can be great for a short period of time, but longer trips might require a rental property like Golden Lemon Inn and Villas, where you can make yourself feel more at home.
Accommodation costs are at their highest during the peak months of December through February, but hotels can be discounted as much as 40 percent during the off season. Most hotels add a 10 percent service charge to the bill as well as a 7 percent government tax.

When searching for a hotel in St. Kitts, it's helpful to review our Star Ratings. These ratings are based upon the quality of the hotel, including the service, décor, comfort, and amenities. The ratings are given without recognition of the price, so you may be able to find a number of lodging options in your price range in all of the rating categories.
Hotels rated with 1 Star in St. Kitts are small, and often privately owned and operated by the same person or family. The rooms are often very plainly decorated, and have few amenities. This will be just fine, however, for vacationers who place more emphasis on exploring the island than lounging in a posh hotel suite. St. Kitts' 1 Star properties includes Pinney's Beach Hotel and range in price from $50 to $150(USD).
When it comes to the 2 Star accommodations, you'll find that the rooms are often the same small size if not a little larger. Usually the rooms will still be sparsely decorated, though maybe with a little more care to detail, and amenities remain basic. You may find that these hotels are a part of a small national chain. St. Kitts' 2 Star properties includes Nelson Spring Beach Villas and Spa, and range in price from $100 to $300(USD).
As you approach St. Kitt's 3 Star properties, you begin to enjoy more comfortably sized rooms, with more carefully chosen appointments, and a well-liked staff. These hotels will likely have a bar or restaurant (or both), and room service. St. Kitts' 3 Star properties include Oulie Beach Resort, Mount Nevis Hotel and Beach Club, and Bird Rock Beach Hotel, and range in price from $100 to $500(USD).
Luxury amenities begin to pop up as you move towards the 4 star resorts. Rooms are decorated with great care and often have themes. The staff makes it their goal to provide each guest with the experience of a lifetime, and there may be high-end amenities, and lots of them. St. Kitts' 4 Star properties include Rawlins Plantation Inn and Ottley's Plantation Inn, and range in price from $200 to $800(USD).
It doesn't get any better than a 4 1/2 or 5 Star hotel. To merit this grade, properties must be beautifully furnished, very comfortable, very well taken care of, nicely landscaped, and frequently updated. Currently, we only rate the Four Seasons in this category, but we're keeping a close eye on a few other properties, which could eventually reach this status.
